As I stood in a line waiting for the little blue shirts to turn the corner, my heart and mind were racing! I felt nervous and so excited. Earlier in the day Rachel had worked hard on a welcome sign that they held for him to see. With my camera in hand....we waited! As the kids turned the corner, I watched one by one to find my little blue shirt!!! He was all smiles as I pulled the camera down and shouted, Aleks!!! We walked up to each other and I give him a big hug. "Aleks, you are finally here! You are finally here!"
I have been waiting for this day for six months to be able to touch him, look at his blue eyes, to see his smile and hug. It was amazing! Almost slow motion.
But then everything started moving quickly as we were the first to have a photo take and then we were off and moving to the car. Aleks was ready to go. And we all but ran out of the airport.
The car ride was a bit quiet. He sat looking at us in the back seat. His little face had a look of concern and wonder. He just stepped into a car of people he had only heard about and briefly talked to via Skype. One day, I will ask him what he was thinking that first night.
We arrive home and headed to his room. He took it all in and just touched everything. He had a room, his room.
Today, we have an energetic, curious and creative son that is not afraid to check out anything and everything inside and out of our home. We have spent the day together enjoying Chick-fil-a, playing soccer, having water gun fights, pizza and catching fireflies. (which he had never seen before)
There are many adventures to come...Aleks is home!!!
