Well, it is official.
Have you ever been talking about an event or planning for something and when it takes place you can say, “it’s official”? Like an engagement, wedding, or birth of a child…the preparing, the planning, just the feelings and emotions become so real when it finally takes place.
Well, yesterday, I had those feelings inside as I ran around the house Tuesday morning. I was cleaning, straightening and getting ready for the event of the morning. It was our first home study. The girls were folding and putting away their clothes, making their beds, cleaning up bathrooms, Kevin was taking out trash, making coffee and putting up our new fire extinguishers. Then it happened, at 10:30 a.m. Kelly walked in and introduced herself to us for the first time. With her folder in hand we sat in the living room and looked over our first of many checklists. We had completed our first six items on the list. We were instructed on the next steps and would need to process our next 15 items on the list. Then we walked her through our home, showing her each room sharing something about each and what makes it special; from the big, open living room, sitting room in the kitchen, basement of storage to where Alex would sleep and play. We were told our home was warm and inviting. And that is what we have worked for when we built the place we call home.
The girls were nervous but did a wonderful job and sharing who they are personally and how they felt about adoption. I am so proud of them. They spoke from their heart and I am every thankful for their hearts of love.
After all was said and done. Deep breaths were taken. And we said our good byes to the “first visit”…I can say it is defiantly “official.” Our journey to see Alex home, is not just a thought in our minds…it’s now in progress.
